Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs to re-register?

All student organizations must re-register each academic year to remain active and in good standing. The re-registration cycle typically opens in late Spring semester and runs through the summer. Updates on opening dates and deadlines will be shared through CAN's Instagram here.

Who should submit the re-registration application?

The incoming president or designated primary student leader is responsible for submitting the re-registration application to ensure the information reflects the current leadership team and that follow-up communication (e.g., Engagement Fair registration and orientation requirements) reaches the current student leaders.

What happens if we miss the deadline?

Organizations that miss the re-registration deadline may lose registered status and access to resources like:

  • Funding
  • Event reservations
  • Campus space reservations

Late applications will not be accepted, and organizations will need to wait until the next application cycle to reapply. Missing re-registration for two consecutive cycles will result in dismissal of the organization. To restart, students must apply as a new organization.

Do we need to upload a new constitution each year?

Yes. Organizations must upload an updated constitution each year, even if no changes are made. The constitution is your organization’s governing document and outlines your purpose, structure, and procedures. The Center for Student Engagement uses it as a guide to support your organization and ensure consistency in how policies and practices are applied.

Students are required to use the provided template when developing their constitution, and it must reflect the current academic year.

Can officers change after re-registration?

Yes. Organizations may update officer roster at any time through the student organization portal after re-registration is complete. Additionally, any changes to the president or treasurer positions should also be updated with us via email at can@luc.edu.

What if our advisor changes?

If your advisor changes, update the advisor information on your re-registration application (please note this includes the "Group Re-Registration Details" and the approval form after that page).

The application will prompt the new advisor to confirm their role. If the incoming advisor has questions, please refer them to resources for advisors here.

What are some of the common reasons for re-registration delays

Re-registration is often delayed when required information is incomplete or needs updating. Some common issues include:

  • Missing advisor confirmation
  • Incomplete officer roster
  • Incorrect or outdated constitution upload
  • Listing graduated or ineligible officers
  • Missing or incorrect contact information
