Research Interests

Dr. Dotson’s clinical and surgical interests center on advancing translational research in ophthalmology. During his residency at the University of Iowa, he received the prestigious P.J. Leinfelder Resident Research Day Award for his role in developing the innovative corneal “cufflink” plug, a novel technique for treating non-traumatic corneal perforations. He has also presented his research on intrascleral haptic fixation of light-adjustable intraocular lenses at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, contributing valuable insights into optimizing surgical outcomes for complex patients.

In addition, Dr. Dotson has authored numerous case reports for EyeRounds, the University of Iowa’s widely recognized online case report journal. His ongoing research is dedicated to exploring new strategies to enhance both the efficiency and safety of ophthalmic surgery, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes.
