Message from the Chair
Thank you very much for visiting the Department of Neurological Surgery at the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. Our department is dedicated to the tri-partite mission of patient care, education, and research and is consistently ranked as one of the country's top hospitals for neurosurgical care. Our collection of dedicated faculty and staff provide state-of-the-art care, conduct pioneering research, and train the next generation of skilled and compassionate neurosurgeons.
The Loyola University Medical Center is a quaternary care hospital serving patients regionally, nationally, and internationally. The hospital holds the highest certifications as a Level 1 Trauma Center, a Joint Commission Accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center, and a Level 4 Epilepsy Center among others. We stand at the nexus of innovation and patient care and regularly pioneer and test the latest therapies for neurological diseases. Our team has investigative enterprises that span the basic sciences to clinical care with countless, ongoing research projects within the department and with our many extramurally funded collaborators across the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and Loyola University Medical Center. Our efforts generate 75+ peer-reviewed publications annually and countless presentations at regional, national, and international meetings and conferences.
Additionally, we view training the next generation of dedicated, compassionate, and skilled neurological surgeons as a key function of our department. Our cadre of residents attend weekly educational conferences and Grand Rounds and monthly journal clubs. We host distinguished Visiting Professors throughout the year to expose our trainees to thought leaders in the field. Our academic calendar culminates with the annual resident graduation ceremony and the announcement of the Tarik Ibrahim Graduate Education and Research, John F. Shea, and O. Howard Reichman awards to our most accomplished residents.
Medical students at the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and visiting medical students from across the country are exposed to the full breadth of the clinical, educational, and investigative activities of the department. We offer a sub-internship for fourth year medical students interested in learning more about our specialty and in preparing for a career as a neurological surgeon. Our sub-interns integrate completely into the team and benefit from a graduated, hands-on educational experience. Many medical students are active participants in our research endeavors, attend our departmental conferences, and participate in our chapter of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Neurological Surgery Student Interest Group.
We are excited to highlight the many considerable achievements of our incredible department. We invite you to learn more about our residency program by exploring our website and look forward to crossing paths in the near future!
Sincerely,
Min S. Park, MD
