Stritch Immersion Program (SIP)

Get ready for for your M1 year!

Program Overview

This four-week program is designed to help prepare incoming first-year medical students for academic success in medical school.  Through virtual and in-person interactive (group and private) sessions and an online curriculum, the program provides:

  • A simulation of the way material is delivered at Stritch School of Medicine (SSOM)
  • An assessment of the student’s studying and test-taking strategies and guidance for improving them
  • An overview of resources that can support overall health and well-being
  • Financial literacy tools and resources
  • An introduction to medical school peers, leaders, and the surrounding community

Program Details & Application

Program enrollment is capped at 20 students.  Participant expectations include a commitment of approximately 20 hours per week dedicated to an asynchronous curriculum and virtual seminars, as well as expectation to attend all in-person activities during the last week of the program.  The first three weeks of the program are virtual, consisting of asynchronous lectures from three M1 science courses (MCBG, SHB, FHB) and live virtual seminars; participants are expected to be in the Chicago area and attend all in-person activities for the final week of the program (the week prior to M1 orientation).

This program is free and all matriculating M1 students are invited to apply, with preference given to those who:

  • Have a non-science undergraduate major
  • Have been out of school for a substantial period
  • Are changing professions
  • Or have educational or social backgrounds that might impact academic success

What is the Cost?

This program is FREE.  Local travel and meals will be covered for all in-person sessions.  This program is generously supported by the Office of the Dean, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and the Executive Admissions Committee.
