Media Fellows Hit a Home Run at Wrigley Field
The field trip to Wrigleyville was the capstone event for the Media Fellows, a cohort of 25 students majoring in either Advertising & Public Relations, Communication Studies, Film & Digital Media or Multimedia Journalism.
From the marquee to the stands, Media Fellows made the most of every moment.
The Media Fellows are a select group of freshmen who will spend their four years at Loyola taking classes together and participating in special events and activities, travel, internships, community engagement and service projects.
Their classes are certainly educational and informative. But the Media Fellows especially enjoy the outings like the visit to Wrigley Field, the second-oldest Major League ballpark.
A special tour guide showed the group the unique features of the “Friendly Confines,” including the manually operated scoreboard, the famous bleachers, and the ivy-covered walls. The Media Fellows then stayed for a Cubs game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Media Fellows take on Wrigleyville. Cubs gear on, smiles all around.
“I personally had such a great time and really appreciated the opportunity to spend time with the fellows and get to go to one of the greatest ballparks in the country,” said Will Nichols, a freshman Multimedia Journalism major. “I had a wonderful time.”
Other outings for this inaugural group of Media Fellows have included improv workshops at Second City, a deep-dish pizza making class, a visit to Billy Goat Tavern for cheeseburgers, and hot dogs and beef sandwiches at Portillo’s.
The Media Fellows also organized and operated Halloween and Valentine’s Day pop up events, lifting the spirits of Loyola students with games, crafts, candy and prizes.
Each year, a new group of freshmen are selected to be Media Fellows based on their academic performance, extracurricular accomplishments and their creativity. For more information about the Media Fellows, and to view an application, visit: SOC Media Fellows
