Sister Jean‘s Legacy
Three ways to support Sister Jean’s legacy
WITH THE SUPPORT OF THREE ENDOWED FUNDS—the Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt, BVM, Scholarship; the Worship, Work, Win Fund; and the Gannon Scholarship—Loyola students are taking up her mantle to rise to positions of leadership, educate and mentor their peers, and work to create a more equitable and just society. “Sister Jean spent her life helping students feel supported, encouraged, and confident in their abilities,” says Luigi Amendola, the vice president of University Advancement. “These funds reflect the causes closest to her heart—supporting student athletes, celebrating women’s leadership, and making a Loyola education accessible to all. By investing in our students’ minds, hearts, and spirits, we don’t just honor Sister Jean’s legacy; we carry it forward.”

Gannon Scholarship
The Gannon Scholars leadership program is a highly selective, four-year merit-based scholarship that engages students in the development of leadership, service, and research. Established in 1993 to honor Ann Ida Gannon, BVM, the longest serving president at Mundelein College, the donor-supported scholarship awards each recipient $10,000 per year. Open to students of all genders, the program aspires to develop leaders who contribute to a more just social order.

Worship, Work, Win Fund
Established in 2019, the Worship, Work, Win Fund supports student athletes by providing full or partial scholarships and funding for team travel, service trips, fitness equipment, nutrition supplements, and sports performance enhancements. A cause dear to Sister Jean’s heart, the fund was established by alumni and donor gifts to support athletes’ educational success and help them compete at the highest level.
