He went on to graduate from Northeastern Illinois University with a M.A. in Counseling. Michael has worked both inpatient and outpatient as a therapist and as an advisor or school counselor for both K-12 and university level students. Michael is a strong advocate for social justice and LGBTQ+ rights.

Michael's favorite place near the Lake Shore Campus is the circle of columns at the Hartigan Beach Park just north of campus. He also loves the Information Commons and the Mundelein Greenhouse.
