She teaches Introduction to Children's Law Policy and Practice in the program. Helen also works for the Federal Defender Program in Chicago, where she supervises graduate social work students. She previously worked as a staff attorney at the Federal Defender Program, where she created the social work internship program and also assisted in the formation of the James B. Moran Second Chance Program, a federal reentry court which operates in the Northern District of Illinois. She has a private practice as a criminal mitigation specialist, and she is a licensed clinical social worker. She was an assistant public defender in the juvenile court, an adjunct professor for Loyola School of Social Work, and an adjunct professor at DePaul College of Law.
