Alpha Phi Sigma & the Criminal Justice Organization host documentary screening of 'The Alabama Solution'
Student members of both Alpha Phi Sigma (APS), our Department's Criminal Justice Honor Society, and the Criminal Justice Organization (CJO) organized a special screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary The Alabama Solution on Monday, April 13th in the Damen Cinema. As part of this collaboration with the John Howard Association, dozens of Loyola students, faculty, staff, as well as community stakeholders attended the two-hour screening and then engaged in dialogue lead by three prison reform activists. In the discussion, Eric Buchannon, a formerly incarcerated Alabama man turned minister and prison reform activist addressed his role in the making of the documentary and answered questions about his experience in the Alabama Correctional System alongside Tony Thomas and David Staples (both formerly incarcerated men who are now affiliated with the John Howard Association).
